NICEIC

The National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting ( NICEIC )is the electrical contracting industry's main regulatory body. Its sole purpose is to protect consumers from unsafe electrical work.

TLM Multiservices are approved as Domestic Installers by NICEIC, which means we demonstrated that out work meets their high standards. NICEIC assessed a representative sample of our work, our documentation, and the competence of our staff. We are re-assessed every year to confirm that our business and our electrical work continue to meet their standards.

DIY, the Law, and Your Property

Government statistics show that faulty fixed electrical installations in UK homes cause around 30 deaths and 1,250 serious injuries every year. To address this issue the government has created new Building Regulations controlling electrical work in dwellings.  The new regulations, known as Part P, came into effect on 1st January 2005.

The regulations require that alterations, additions and new installations meet the technical requirements of BS 7671.  DIY projects, except minor works, must in most cases be notified to the local council Building Control Department before work begins, and must be inspected by Building Control on completion. This can be costly.

TLM Multiservices are certified by the NICEIC to allow us to self certify the standard and quality of our work for the requirements of the Building regulations. Upon completion, we are able to electronically notify the Local authority to fulfil this legal requirement. We save our clients from having to deal with the council or pay building control department charges.

The government is planning to require everyone selling a house to provide buyers with a Home Information Pack which may include a Home Condition Report. The HCR is expected to include an inspection of the electrical system. This could identify DIY work, catching out sellers who try to shortcut the Part P regulations.
